Wahid Hamid, Abraaj Capital - Director

Wahid Hamid is a Senior Partner at Abraaj Capital -the largest private equity firm in Emerging Markets - and Head of the Portfolio Management and Operations Group. In this role, Mr. Hamid is responsible for building out the Firm’s operational excellence and business acceleration capabilities to drive value creation in portfolio companies.
 
Mr. Hamid brings extensive experience to Abraaj Capital related to strategy, M&A, global business development and operational improvement. Most recently, he was an independent advisor to private equity firms and their portfolio companies. Mr. Hamid also acted as a Senior Advisor to the Boston Consulting Group, helping to expand their business with leading multinational clients.
 
Prior to this role, Mr. Hamid was Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Development at PepsiCo, Inc., reporting to the CEO. He was on the Firm’s Executive Management Committee and a member of the Board of Pepsi Americas (NYSE:PAS), one of their largest anchor bottlers. While at PepsiCo, he was also CFO of PepsiCo Americas Foods, a US$ 20 billion sector of the company. In these roles he was responsible for developing and implementing innovative corporate and business unit strategies, new ventures and alliances and for all M&A activities in conjunction with the divisions and sectors.
 
Mr. Hamid joined PepsiCo from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he spent 15 years in a wide variety of roles and led engagements advising Fortune 100 companies on developing and implementing growth and innovation strategies as well as on large-scale reengineering and transformation programs and ultimately served as Senior Partner and Managing Director in their New York office. He led BCG’s consumer goods and retail practice across Asia Pacific for a number of years and led large-scale engagements in Japan, China, South Korea and India.
 
Mr. Hamid holds dual undergraduate degrees from the California Institute of Technology (with honors) and Occidental College (cum laude) and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael P. Huseby, Barnes & Noble - Director

Michael P. Huseby is the Chief Financial Officer of Barnes & Noble - in this role he leads the company’s finance organization, and is responsible for aligning the company’s finance and business strategies, optimizing the company’s capital structure and helping to scale the rapidly growing digital business.  

Mr. Huseby has a distinguished career in financial and overall business management.  Most recently, from 2004 to 2011, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cablevision Systems Corporation, a leading telecommunications and media company.  He played a key role in the company’s growth during his tenure, including the successful spin offs of two significant Cablevision subsidiary businesses.   Prior to joining Cablevision, Mr. Huseby served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Charter Communications, Inc., the fourth largest cable operator in the U.S.   Prior to Charter, Mr. Huseby served as Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, of AT&T Broadband, a provider of cable television services.  In addition, Mr. Huseby spent 20 years at Arthur Andersen as a Global Equity Partner.      

A native of Chicago, Mr. Huseby holds a degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Raana Imtiaz Khan, Meyers Associates, L.P. - Observer

Raana Imtiaz Khan is the Executive Vice President at Meyers Associates, LP.   He focuses on assisting corporate clients in achieving their financial and strategic objectives. He has led several assignments and transactions including merger and acquisition advisory, debt and equity private placements, restructuring and valuations in connection with complex securities transactions.

Mr. Khan has been at Meyers since 2000 and has worked on over $100 million in investment for various public and private emerging growth companies.  Mr. Khan serves on the board of several private and public companies.

Prior to joining Meyers, Mr. Khan worked in the Investment Banking Group at Merrill Lynch. Previously, Mr. Khan launched and ran a construction management and engineering firm, where he led a number of successful commercial projects.

Mr. Khan holds a BE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan and an MBA in Finance from New York University's Stern School of Business and is a Wharton Fellow from the University of Pennsylvania.

Jon Lerner, Smedvig Capital - Observer

Jon is a Senior Associate of Smedvig Capital, which he joined in 2008 from Bain & Company. Prior to Smedvig Capital Jon worked at Bain and Company as a Senior Consultant supporting FTSE 100 management teams in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, financial services and consumer products sectors. Jon has also spent 6 months working in house at Argos on multi channel strategy and product expansion.

Jon splits his time between finding fast growing businesses in the UK / Nordics and closely supporting three of our portfolio companies, Selstor, Mediamorph and Tusker.

Jon has a first class MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with French from Bristol University.

Kim Morgan, Motorola Mobility Ventures - Observer

Kim is an Investment Manager in the US team of Motorola Mobility Ventures. In this role, Kim identifies, executes and manages strategic minority equity investments on behalf of Motorola Mobility. Prior to joining Motorola Ventures in 2006, Kim spent two years with Motorola in the Business Leadership Development Program, a company-wide initiative for developing leaders within the company. Kim has worked in various business functions, including strategy, supply chain and marketing throughout the various Motorola business units. Kim's background prior to joining Motorola includes nearly a decade with the U.S. Navy as a combat helicopter pilot, mission commander, maintenance pilot and flight instructor. During that time, she held several operational and program management positions both stateside and during her two overseas deployments. Kim has an MBA from the University of West Florida and a bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Stewart Till, CBE, Sonar Entertainment - Director

Stewart Till is CEO of Sonar Entertainment a leading developer, producer and distributor of films and television. He is also Chair of, and a shareholder in, the film company Icon Film Distribution, a group that includes Icon UK Distribution and Icon International Sales.

Stewart is also non-exec Chair of www.theppc.com, a creative agency for the major film studios, broadcasters and computer games publishers. He is also Chair of Silverfish, a production company specialising in the public and charity sectors, whose clients include The Labour Party and Amnesty International.

Until August 2009 Stewart was Chairman of the UK Film Council, the body established to manage the lottery monies and grants they allocated to the UK film industry.

From 2006 to 2008, Stewart was Chair of Millwall Football Club. From the end of 2002 until December 2006, Stewart was Chairman and CEO of United International Pictures, during which time it was the world's leading distributor of feature length motion pictures.

Stewart has also been President of Signpost Films, was President of Universal Pictures International, and held a similar role at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment.

In June 2000 Stewart was awarded a CBE for services to the British film industry. He holds an honorary Doctorate at Essex University and is both an Honorary Fellow and a Visiting Professor at Goldsmiths College.

Robert Toms, Smedvig Capital - Director

Rob is a Managing Director at Smedvig Capital, which he joined in 2001. He has particular experience in FMCG, retail, support services, financial services and property.

Prior to joining Smedvig Capital, Rob was a director at Jardine International Motors, a $4bn auto industry group. There he was responsible for strategy and M&A, completing transactions both in Europe and in the US. Previously he spent six years in strategy consulting at Bain & Company, leading assignments on strategic, operational and organisational issues for clients in a variety of sectors. He has an MBA with distinction from London Business School.

He is a board member at Exchange Group, Tusker, PPC, Mediamorph, My Home Move (Chairman) and SelStor AB (Chairman).
